Our Chief Researcher had the opportunity to give two lectures at the University of Manchester. Of them, there was a 2-hour session for LLM/MA master’s students on International Law & Counter-Terrorism. Khalil Dewan concentrated on the US targeted killing policy in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen, and for the first time publicly discussed British drone strikes. Dewan faced the challenge of engaging students in a post-lunch lecture and chose to share a few snippets of primary investigatory findings, which piqued some students' interest in exploring the topic further through dissertations.

The cases of Aulaqi v Obama and Reyaad Khan et al were among those discussed, encouraging students to critically engage with counter-terrorism issues and the law. They were urged to consider a multi-disciplinary approach, best understood from a bottom-up perspective using anthropology, sociology, and studies of political violence/peace.
